Mentmore Towers: tourists allowed?

Hi there. I was wondering if Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire is open to tourists. I plan on coming to Buckinghamshire, and would love to visit the Towers. I have been scouring the net for info, and haven’t seen any "tourist attraction" marketing for it though. Is it open to the public, or is it locked up for only certain events or special people? I thought maybe a local might know more. I would really appreciate the help. Thank you.

Mentmore Towers is not open to the public. It is currently owned by the troubled Simon Halabi(*1) and recently listed as one of the most endangered historic sites by English Heritage.(*2) The Towers is his private country residence and closed to the public for viewing or functions although several movies were filmed there many years ago. It was awarded planning approval for refurbishment into a private members hotel, but Halabi has failed to actually begin development on any such project.(*3)

However, if you would like to see it from a distance, I would recommend visiting Mentmore Golf and Country Club and then walking parts of the Rothschild Course near the 14-15th holes (with permission from the Club of course). (*4)

Contact the Country Club on 01296 662 020 for permission.

Are my job prospects bad?

I hope to graduate with a bachelors in Sociology this May. Don’t ask why I chose Sociology — I don’t even know myself. I guess it was kind of by default as nothing else stuck out. In any event, I’ll be hitting the job market this summer but just how bad are my prospects?

It’s a plus that I have a four year degree, but I have no idea what I want to do. This has plagued me throughout college. Worse yet, I have learned extremely little in college as my college experience has been little beyond Jeopardy-like facts that I’ve largely forgotten. I don’t really have any skills that I didn’t have after high school. Not to make myself sound helpless, but with no experience doing much of anything, I don’t have a whole lot of work-related skills. The only job I ever had, a desk position at a retirement complex, hardly required a college education. On the plus side, I have had it for four years, which shows steady employment and paints me as reliable employee. Being an introvert, I don’t have much of a network to speak of, either.

To me, the negatives outweigh the positives… especially when the market is as bad as it is. But what do you think – how good, or bad, are my job prospects??

I’m curious.

Your job prospects are definitely worse than the people with Engineering, or Accounting degrees.

But do not give up hope – look for work that is more dependent on personality and character than on technical skills – like sales, or customer service.

because the job market is so bad now, you may have to make do with an entry level, lower paying job for the time being.

What things to do in Paris other then visiting main tourist sites?

Hi,

I’ll be going to Paris for two days on Monday. I’ll be staying in a hotel close to the Eiffel tower. The thing is, my friend and I have already been to the main museums and been on the tower and don’t want to spend that much. We want to go to traditional French markets, have nice French meals and things like that or go to nice shopping centres. I’m Googling but just find the main tourist attractions.

Can you suggest things do do in Paris other then visiting the main tourist attractions.

Thanks

just walk around and you’ll find things. Exploring is the most exciting part of visiting a city, especially one as beautiful as Paris. Lounge in cafes, wander down the little streets of the Latin Quarter and just soak up the atmosphere.

What does this new NCAR study say about sunspots, solar output and AGW?

BOULDER—Challenging conventional wisdom, new research finds that the number of sunspots provides an incomplete measure of changes in the Sun’s impact on Earth over the course of the 11-year solar cycle. The study, led by scientists at the High Altitude Observatory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the University of Michigan, finds that Earth was bombarded last year with high levels of solar energy at a time when the Sun was in an unusually quiet phase and sunspots had virtually disappeared.

“The Sun continues to surprise us,” says NCAR scientist Sarah Gibson, the lead author. “The solar wind can hit Earth like a fire hose even when there are virtually no sunspots.”

The study, also written by scientists at NOAA and NASA, is being published today in the Journal of Geophysical Research – Space Physics. It was funded by NASA and by the National Science Foundation, NCAR’s sponsor.

Scientists for centuries have used sunspots, which are areas of concentrated magnetic fields that appear as dark patches on the solar surface, to determine the approximately 11-year solar cycle. At solar maximum, the number of sunspots peaks. During this time, intense solar flares occur daily and geomagnetic storms frequently buffet Earth, knocking out satellites and disrupting communications networks…. continued at the below link

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/09/17/ncar-number-of-sunspots-provides-an-incomplete-measure-of-changes-in-the-suns-impact-on-earth/

For the warmers/science deniers
This study shows that the sun has a much more complex effect on the surrounding solar system, our planet than our current theory explains!

Don’t confuse ions (solar-wind particles) with radiation (visible light, infra-red, ultra-violet, etc). The particles of a solar wind provide auroral light shows and a berrillium shower, but provide only a fraction of the energy in comparison with the radiation spectrum. Solar output is not related directly to the number of sunspots. Sunspot number is one indicator of increased solar output, but not exclusively. The sun can have higher output without a increase of sunspots, and as illustrated in this study, the sun can have an increase of solar wind without an increase of sunspots.

can you name any underperforming tourism or leisure properties?

The place can be a program/ service, facility, resort/ attraction, city, destination, region, etc.. anywhere in the world. I will need to develop a marketing plan/ examine the existing marketing plan and suggest improvements on it.

Duck Lake in Muskegon, Michigan. Great fresh water beach. Lake Michigan across the street. 72 degrees fresh water ocean. Great camping. Great fishing. Great swimming. Great B&B’s. Great restaurants. Lake Michigan spectacular sunsets. And no tourists…

Do U think the Internet & cable/satellite networks hurt wrestling more then help it?

I think they where the real reason the old territorial system collapsed because they forced local TV markets to be more competitive. and the fact that some networks rerun their shows in the afternoons and weekends made it even harder for a promoter to keep fans watching his show week after week. In the end the 1,2,3 &4 punch of these plus the WWF’s expansion and fewer independent wrestlers willing to work the smaller areas lead to it’s collapse.

Yes it does. You want to know why Vince is on top because your right he nearly runed every other territorial promotion out of business and that why the WWE monopolies the wrestling industry. Unfortunately in the end making wrestling one dimensional and not really diverse. I know a lot of people on here and in real life say that you are not a wrestler if you are not in the WWE. WTF?? It a shame how close minded people have become. The cable network are looking for raings that is it. As for the internet, I think it hurt the wrestlers more than anything because the fans can find out anything about everything like what goes on backstage and results for upcoming shows and dib into their personal life.

In Boston for a tourist, where is the best area of town to stay (to have attraction w/in walking dist)?

On Hotwire I see there is…
Copley Square Area
Quincy Market Area
Waterfront Area – South Bay

Thanks.

Everything is walkable in Boston, and for Boston/Cambridge what is not a close walk is a short subway jaunt. But of the areas you mention the most central would be the Quincy Market and South Bay areas (South Bay is NOT at the Waterfront, by the way, and it is not even waterside; it refers to the original bay which was filled in 200 years ago). Still more central would be the Boston Common/Park Street area

Here’s what another organization used for their copy:

We’ll hear leading brands describe how they’re integrating multi-platform marketing including creative strategy, organization structure, and media planning. "
I need something similar to that quote with the above details included. HELP!!
